Headsweats Announces Development of New UV Protecting, Lightweight Fabric

Exciting news guys - this month, Headsweats announces the development of our innovative new Eventure Fabric. Set to launch in Spring 2010, Eventure Fabric is a proprietary woven material that wicks sweat, provides UV protection and is incredibly lightweight. It’s going to be setting new standards in the headwear market this year.

The new UltraLite Hat combines the unique elements of Eventure Fabric with our Coolmax Fabric to keep you cool, dry and protected. The center panel of the hat is constructed with Eventure Fabric. It’s lightweight and will protect you from the sun where you need it most. The side panels are made from our Coolmax Fabric, allowing the enhanced breathability you’ve come to expect, and transferring moisture to the outer layer of fabric. A new high-performance, lightweight headband inside the hat offers a blend of Coolmax knit and Coolmax terry to keep sweat out of your eyes and wick it away from the brows. The hat weighs in at 1.6 ounces, and the UltraLite Visor at just 1.5 ounces, thanks to Eventure Fabric’s woven shell.

Like all of our headwear, the new products will be completely customizable to your specifications, so keep an eye out! We’ll also be at the Winter 2010 Outdoor Retailer Trade Show with samples.

The Outside Blog reviews Heatsweats Products

We were delighted to come across this fantastic review of our hats by The Gear Army’s Byron Powell on The Outside Blog.

The Outside Blog is a one-stop resource for all things sport - from product reviews to fitness and sports technology news, they really have it covered. Stop by and see what you‘ve been missing.

Gear Army says that Headsweats “set the standard for endurance sports headwear,” praising The Race Hat’s Coolmax fabric, which “was extremely breathable and wicked away any moisture that accumulated,” as well as the SuperVisor, with its elastic rim band, which “not only provides instant fit, it also soaks up the sweat whether the visor is facing forward or backward.”

Thanks for such a fantastic review Byron, we’re delighted that you like our products!

Thanks Adrienne!

Ok, ok, you caught us. We like to read your blogs. We love to find out what you think of our products and which are your favorites, and we were thrilled to come across an entry on Adrienne Saeger’s blog, Living The Dream about the Ironman SuperVisor Cocona we sent her to try out.

“I have a few too many running hats and they are just not fitted right. They fly off my head when it's windy (and it's always windy here), and it just becomes more of an annoyance than a helper. I sported a Headsweats Ironman visor for a windy run last week and I really liked it. The elastic band keeps the visor on my head-tight enough so that it didn't fly off in the wind, but not too tight where I got a headache. Today I realized the true advantage of the Headsweats visor on the bike. I was riding on the trainer and chose the visor to keep my hair out of my face and I was amazed by how much sweat was in the visor when I was finished. It wicks it all inside the brim too. Crazy cool!”

Adrienne thinks she looks “pretty stupid” in visors and caps, but we beg to differ.

The visor is super light, durable and features quick drying Coolmax™ fabric shell and Coolmax™ terry headband. It’s the top-selling visor in our line, not to mention in the entire triathalon industry, and as Adreienne told us, "There's no better way to sport that you are a rockstar Ironman than wearing it on your head!"

The Coastal Experiences promises to offer all of this and more – and with a fully catered and all inclusive seven night trip to Costa Rica. The experience, which is to take place October 11-18 this year and October 10-17 in 2010, was designed for veteran runners as well as for those who are just getting their feet wet, who aspire to run marathons or to become expedition adventure runners but have perhaps only dabbled with local 5k races. Registration closes October 10th, so we suggest that you get over to The Coastal Experiences for more details. Just imagine where you could be in a few weeks or the adventure you could be planning for in October 2010!

Help Blazeman Warriors Win the War Against Lou Gehrig’s disease

From his early teens, John Blais, known to his friends as “Blazeman” was a triathlete who dreamed of competing in Ironman Hawaii. At age 33 he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease: a neurodegenerative disease which affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Those with the disease gradually lose the ability to walk, talk, swallow and finally to breathe.

After his diagnosis, a friend contacted Ironman Hawaii and Blazeman was awarded entry to the competition. He completed the race an hour before the cut off, and is believed to be the first person with ALS to even attempt to do so. "Finishing the race is huge for me,” Blais explained “No one is beating ALS. No one has done anything but walk away and die." Unable to compete in another competition after this because of his condition, Blais continued to attend triathlons in his wheelchair to raise awareness. Though the disease would claim his life, Blais hoped that spreading the word might afford somebody else better chances. Blais sadly died in 2007 at the age 35. In her blog, Leanda Cave of The Blazeman Warriors recalls hearing the news: “I was heartbroken to learn of his ordeal and the speed at which this disease can take a healthy individuals life. From that date on, I have been rolling across many finish lines.”

The Blazeman Foundation for ALS is a non-profit, multi-sport movement aiming to end Lou Gehrig’s disease. The Blazeman Warriors are a nationwide team of athletes, including Leanda Cave, Chrissie Wellington, Dede Griesbauer and Matt Reed. They are aiming to reach a $750,000 target to assist with scientific research into treatments and hope eventually to find a cure for ALS.

The Blazeman Warriors have already reached 75% of their target, and in order to raise the remainder, the Foundation is holding The Great Athlete Auction, beginning at the end of this month. Professional athletes and corporations are donating a variety of items which will then be auctioned on EBay beginning two weeks before the Ford Ironman World Championships held in Kona, Hawaii on October 10. The auction will come to a close as the competition ends.

Headsweats is donating 100 custom hats or visors either embroidered or heat transfer printed with your logo, worth a total of $2000. Other items up for grabs include entry to various Ironman World Champion Qualifier events, a year’s supply of nutritional products from Pacific Health Labs, two months coaching by Triumph Multisport and a wide variety of racewear, equipment and race entries. To find out more and to bid in the auction, keep an eye on
Leanda’s blog and on EBay seller TheGreatAthleteAuction.
